William Robinson
In the name of God Amen I William Robinson of Burscough in the county of Lancaster, Yeoman, being aged and infirm of body but of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding, Blessed be God for the same, do for the settling my temporal concerns make publish and ordain this to be my last Will and Testament in manner and form following.
And first I will and order that all my just debts, funeral expenses and the
charges of the probate of this my will be paid and discharged forth and out my
personal estate. And I do hereby also give, devise, limit and bequeath unto my
eldest son Thomas Robinson, his heirs and assigns all that close and parcel of
land being inheritance and commonly called and known by the name of the Balance
Croft, situate, lying and being in Burscough aforesaid and containing by
estimation two acres of land or thereabouts be the same more or less To hold
unto my son Thomas Robinson, his heirs and assigns for ever he paying the yearly
sum of six pence as a chief rent due and payable for the same. And also I give,
devise and bequeath unto my said son Thomas Robinson all
that close, closure and parcel of land situate, lying and being in Burscough
aforesaid commonly called and known by the name of the Meadow and adjoining to
the said close called Balance Croft and containing by estimation two acres of
land or thereabouts be the same more or less (which said last mentioned close
called the Meadow I hold amongst other lands by virtue of a Lease from the right
honourable Edward Earl of Derby) To hold unto my said son Thomas Robinson his
heirs, executors, administrators and assigns for and during all the term and
estate granted to me in and by the original Indenture of Lease thereof he paying
a proportional part and share of the lords rent due and payable for the same.
And I further give, devise and bequeath unto my eldest son Thomas Robinson all
that messuage and tenement where I now dwell and which I hold by virtue of
another Lease from the said Earl of Derby and the several closes closures and
parcels of land thereunto belonging with their and every of their appurts To
hold unto my said son Thomas Robinson his heirs, executors, administrators and
assigns for and during all the term and estate granted to me in and by the
original
Indenture of Lease thereof and all my right by the interest and estate therein.
And I also give, devise and bequeath unto my said son Thomas Robinson all that
parcel of land commonly called and known by the name of the Marsh Moss Ranck
situate, lying and being in Burscough aforesaid and which I hold by virtue of
another Lease from the said Earl of Derby To hold unto my said son Thomas
Robinson his heirs, executors, administrators and assigns for and during all the
term and estate granted to me by virtue of the said Original Lease thereof and
for and during all my right by the term estate and interest therein. Also I also
give, devise and bequeath unto my son John Robinson all that messuage and
tenement and the several closes closures and parcels of land thereunto belonging
situate, lying and being in Burscough aforesaid and now in the tenure and
possession of John Balshaw as tenant or farmer thereof and which I hold by lease
from the said Earl of Derby To hold unto my said son John Robinson his heirs,
executors, administrators and assigns for and during all the term and estate
granted to me in and by the said Indenture of Lease thereof and for and during
all my right by the form interest and estate therein. And I further give, devise
and bequeath unto my said son
John Robinson all that parcel of ground situate, lying and being in Burscough
aforesaid commonly called and known by the name of the Cabbin Ranck and which I
hold by virtue of another Lease from the said Earl of Derby To hold unto my said
son John Robinson his heirs, executors, administrators and assigns for and
during all the term and estate granted to me by the Original Lease thereof and
for and during all my right term estate and interest therein. Also I give,
devise, limit and bequeath unto my son Henry Robinson his heirs and assigns all
that messuage and tenement and the several closes closures and parcels of land
thereunto belonging being inheritance with their and every of their appurtances
situate, lying and being in Newburgh within Lathom in the said county To hold
unto my said son Henry Robinson his heirs and assigns for ever. And I also give,
devise and bequeath unto my said son Henry all that parcel of land which I hold
by lease from said Earl of Derby containing about half an acre of land and
adjoining the last mentioned tenement and premises To hold unto my said son
Henry Robinson his heirs, executors, administrators and assigns for and during
all the term and estate granted to me by the Original Lease thereof and for and
during all my right term estate and interest therein. And I further give, devise
and bequeath unto my said son Henry Robinson all that parcel of land containing
about two acres situate, lying and being in Lathom aforesaid in a certain close
called Horscar and which I hold by virtue of another Lease from the said Earl of
Derby To hold unto my said son Henry Robinson his heirs, executors,
administrators and assigns for and during all the term and estate granted to me
by the Original Lease thereof and for and during all my right term estate and
interest therein. Also I give, devise, limit and bequeath unto my son William
all that messuage and tenement and all that close closure and parcel of land
being situate, lying and being in Burscough aforesaid commonly called and known
by the name of Burscough hey To hold unto my said son William Robinson his heirs
and assigns for ever he paying the yearly sum of one shilling due and payable as
a chief rent for the same. And I also give, devise and bequeath unto my said son
William Robinson all those several closes closures and parcels of land together
with the new barn built thereon situate, lying and being in Burscough aforesaid
and adjoining to the last mentioned close of land called Burscough hey and
containing about four acres of land or thereabouts and which I hold by lease
from said Earl of Derby To hold unto my said son William Robinson his heirs,
executors, administrators and assigns for and during all the term and estate
granted to me by the Original Lease thereof and for and during all my right term
estate and interest therein. And I also give, devise and bequeath unto my said
son William Robinson all that little house and yard lying near the bowling green
near on sheepcoat hills in Burscough aforesaid together with all those several
closes, closures and parcels of land thereto belonging commonly called and known
by the name of the Moss heys and which I hold by virtue of another Lease from
the said Earl of Derby To hold unto my said son William Robinson his heirs,
executors, administrators and assigns for and during all the term and estate
granted to me by the original Lease thereof and for and during all my right term
estate and interest therein.
And I do hereby further give, devise and bequeath unto my said son William
Robinson all that parcel of Ranck ground lying next to Alice Reynolds ground and
which I hold by virtue of another Lease from the said Earl of Derby To hold unto
my said son William Robinson his heirs, executors, administrators and assigns
for and during all the term and estate granted to me by the said Lease thereof
and for and during all my estate term and interest therein. And whereas I am
possessed of or entitled unto a messuage and tenement and several closes and
parcels of land thereunto belonging situate in the Lordsgate in Burscough
aforesaid hold by virtue of another Lease from the said Earl of Derby. Now my
will and mind is and I do hereby give and devise same unto my two sons John
Robinson and William Robinson equally between them share and share alike until
such time as my grandson William Robinson, son of the said William Robinson,
shall attain his age of twenty one years. And after my said grandson William
Robinson shall have attained his age of twenty one years then I give and devise
the same unto my said grandson William Robinson his heirs, executors,
administrators and assigns for and during all the term to me granted by the said
Lease thereof and for and during all my estate term and interest therein,
provided always that in case my said grandson William Robinson shall happen to
die before he attains his said age of twenty one years then my will and mind is
and I do hereby give, devise and bequeath the last mentioned tenement and
premises unto my two sons John Robinson and William Robinson to be by them
disposed of in such manner as they shall think proper. I give, devise and
bequeath unto my daughter Margaret Fairclough the sum of twenty pounds to be
paid to her by the executors forth and out of my personal within twelve months
next after my decease and I give unto my said daughter Margaret Fairclough the
room in the messuage and tenement in Lordsgate called the parlour for her to
live in during her life if she
thinks proper provided the lease thereof so long continues and she keeps herself
unmarried. Also I give devise and bequeath unto my son John the sum of twenty
pounds to be paid to him within twelve months next after my decease. And I also
give, devise and bequeath unto my daughter Alice Reynolds the sum of five pounds
to be paid to her with twelve months next after my death. Also I give, devise
and bequeath unto my two grandchildren William Reynolds and Alice Reynolds, son
and daughter of Alice Reynolds, the sum of five pounds apiece to be paid to each
of them within twelve months next after my death. Also I give, devise and
bequeath unto my granddaughter Catherine Robinson, daughter of my son Henry
Robinson, the sum of five pounds to be paid to her within twelve months next
after my death. Also I give, devise and bequeath unto my daughter Ann Alty the
sum of five pounds to be paid to her within twelve months next after my death
and do direct that her receipt alone shall be a sufficient discharge unto my
executors for the same without the concurrence of her husband. Also I give,
device and bequeath unto my executors hereafter named the sum of ten pounds to
be put out to interest in their names and the interest or produce thereof to be
yearly laid out by them in bread and distributed yearly by them at every
Christmas to such persons and in such manner as they and the survivor of them
shall think proper. And all the rest, residue and remainder of my personal
estate, goods and chattels of whatever nature or kind soever I give, devise and
bequeath unto my two sons John Robinson and William Robinson equally between
them share and share alike. And I do hereby revoke all former will and wills by
me at any time heretofore made.
And lastly I do hereby nominate, constitute and appoint my two sons John
Robinson and William Robinson joint executors of this my last will and hope they
will see the same justly performed as my trust in them reposed. In witness
thereof I have hereunto put my hand and seal this nineteenth day of November in
the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and forty six. Signed, sealed,
