1714 Will of Jordan Bowlby



In the name of God Amen I Jordan Bowlby of Helmsley in the county of York
yeoman being in perfect mind and memory praised be God I do make constitute and
ordain this my last will and testament revoking all other in manner and form
following Impr[rimi]s.I commit my soull into the hands of Almighty God who gave
it me and my body to the earth to be decently and in A Christian manner buried
at ye discretion of my Executors hereafter named, hoping for A joyful
resurrection at ye last day to have pardon for my sins and to be admitted into ye
Kingdom of God Thro' ye Merritts and Mediation of Jesus Christ my only Saviour and
Redeemer as for ye Temporall estate God has been pleased to bless me with I
dispose of in ye following manner.
Impr[rimis] I give to Thomas Bowlby sons of Rich'd Bowlby late of Stockton to
each of them two shillings and six pence.I give to ye children of Thomas
Bowlby late of Darlington two shillings and six pence to each of them. to Jordan
Brisby and his son to each of them two shillings and six pence. to Matthew Brisby
of Griff two shillings and six pence.to Ann Brisby of Riva[u]lx 20 shillings
and to ye poor of Helmsley 2 [?]:to Thomas Bowlby of Mansfield in
Nottinghamshire two shillings and six pence.all the rest of my Estate as houses and land
and [?kill] with all ye appurtinances belonging Thereunto at Easingwold in
Yorkshire formerly called [?] house and now in my possession I give and bequeath
to Jordan Bowlby Mansfield Woodhouse in Nottinghamshire.
I do constitute and appoint that the said Jordan Bowlby and his father Thomas
Bowlby to be my sole Executors jointly of this my last will and testament
they paying the legacies by me bequeathed and my just debts and discharging my
Funerall expenses.
The cottage house wherein I dwell (with all ye household goods) and
appurtinances thereunto belonging with ye [?] of ye Lord and his officers to ye above
named Jordan Bowlby the son of Thomas Bowlby of Mansfield Woodhouse.
In witness hereof I have set my hand and seall.
