John Thomson Hills
This is the last will and testament of me John Thomson Hills of Chapel Place Mibourne St in the City of Carlisle, bootmaker, I give and bequeath to my friends William Henry Lawrence of Stanwick near Carlisle, tailor and John Mitchell of Chapel Street Willow Holme Carlisle, tailor all my real and personal estate whatsoever and wheresoever upon trust to sell the same and collect and get in all monies due and owing to me and to apply the proceeds in the manner following, that is to say, to my daughter at Ruth Little £5, to my daughter Elizabeth Scott £5. All the rest residue and remainder I direct shall be divided into eight shares. One share thereof I give to my son John, one share to my son William, one share to my daughter Catherine Moffet, one share to my daughter Sarah Carruthers, one share to my daughter Isabella Abbott, one share to my son Edward Noble Hills, one half share to my daughter Ann Turner, one other share I direct shall be applied by my executors for the general benefit of the two grandchildren, residing with me, namely Thomas Hills and Mary Hills, and the remaining half share to go in discharge of any debts I may owe. And I further direct that all the shares of my daughters shall be for their sole and separate use free from the control debts or engagement of their husbands, their receipt alone to be sufficient discharge. And lastly I appoint the said William Henry Lawrence and John Mitchell joint executors of this my will to whom I devise all estates vested in mein trust or by way of mortgage, to hold the same according to the equities affecting the same. But all monies received from mortgages to form part of my residuary estate and to be distributed as before directed. And I declare this to be my last will and testament, hereby revoking all former wills by me heretofore made. As witness my hand this 14th day of July 1879
Signed by the said testator as and for his last will and testament in the presence of us both present at the same time who at his request in his presence and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses.

Proved at Carlisle on the first day of March 1884 by the oaths of William Henry Lawrence and John Mitchell, the executors named in the will to whom administration was granted. The testator John Thomson Hills was late Chapel Place Milbourne St in the City of Carlisle bootmaker and died on the 23rd day of June 1883 at Chapel Place.
