In the Name of God Amen
I Alice Gladman otherwise Green of Studham in the County Of Hertford a widow being aged and infirm but of sound perfect And disposing mind memory and understanding praised be God Herefore and remembering the certainty of death and the Uncertainty of the time thereof do make publish and declare this My last Will and Testament in Writing in manner and form Following (that is to say) first and primarily I commend my Soul into the hands of Almighty God my Maker and Creator Hoping assuredly through the merits of Jesus Christ my Saviour and Redeemer to be made partaker of everlasting Life and by Body Committ to the Earth to be decently buryed In the Churchyard of Studham aforesaid as near my late Deceased husband as may be and for my Worldly Estate I Dispose thereof as followeth. Imprimis I give and bequeath unto My four Grandchildren (the Sons of my eldest Son Thomas Gladman otherwise Green) namely Thomas, Adam, John and William to each of them Thirty pounds apiece of lawfull Money of Great Britain to be paid to each of them at their Several and respective ages of One and Twenty year by my Executor hereafter named and my Mind and Will is that if My said Grandsons or any one or more of them before named Shall not be of Age at my death That then their several Legacies shall be paid to them with Interest from my Death At the time or times aforesaid and further my Mind and Will is that if any One or more of my Said four Grandsons herein before named shall happen to dye before his or their legacy or legacies shall become payable Then my Will is that the Legacy or Legacies of him or them so dying shall go and be Paid to the Survivors equally among them. Then I give and Bequeath unto each of my Six Grandchildren (the Sons and Daughter of my Son Adam Green) that are now living namely Sarah, William, John, Thomas, Humphrey and Joseph, the Sum Of Twenty pounds apiece of like lawfull Money to put them out Apprentices in case they shall be minded to have Trades But if they shall not be put out Apprentices Then the same to Be paid them respectively at their severall Ages of One and Twenty years with Interest from my death in case they shall Be then living. But if any One or more of them shall happen To dye before his her or their Legacy or Legacies shall Become payable then my Will is that the Legacy or Legacies Of him her of them so dying Shall not be paid but fall and Sink into my Estate for the benefit of my Executor. Then I give And bequeath unto my Son William Gladman otherwise Green The Sum of Twenty pounds of like lawful Money to be paid Unto him within six months next after my decease in case My said Son William Gladman otherwise Green shall be then Living But if he shall be then dead then my Will is that the Said Legacy of Twenty pounds by me before given to him shall Not be paid but shall fall and sink into my Estate for the benefit Of my Executor and Residuary Legatees hereafter named. Then I give and bequeath unto my three Grandchildren (the Sons And Daughters of my Son William Gladman otherwise Green) Namely William Thomas and Anne the sum of Ten pounds Apiece of like lawfull Money to be paid unto them respectively Within twelve Months next after my decease or be applied Towards putting them out Apprentices to Trades as my Executor Shall think fitt. Then I give and bequeath unto my Son Adam Gladman otherwise Green the sum of Twenty pounds of like Lawfull Money of Great Britain to be paid unto him by my Executor here after named with six Months next after my Decease and do forgive him all Moneys that he owes me or hath Received for my use. Them I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Sarah Clarke the Sum of Ten pounds of like lawfull Money of Great Britain to be paid to her by my Executor within three Months next after my decease. Then I give and bequeath unto My Daughter Mary the Wife of Thomas Gurney the Sum of Two Shillings and Six pence of like lawfull Money of Great Britain. Then I give and bequeath all the rest and residue of my Moneys owing to me on Mortgage Bond or otherwise and all My goods chattels and personall Estate whatsoever and Wheresoever and of what nature of kind soever And all other My Estate whether reall or personal (from and after payment Of my Debts Legacies and ffunerall Expenses) unto my said Son Thomas Gladman otherwise Green his ______ Executors Administrators and Assignees and I do hereby make constitute And appoint the said Thomas Gladman otherwise Green My said son full and sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament hereby revoking and making void all former and Other Wills by me at any time heretofore made and declaring This my last Will and Testament contained and written on two Sheets of paper to each sheet thereof set my hand and seal this Eight and twentieth day of Ffebruary in the Eight Year of The reign of our sovereign Lord George the Second by the Grace of God of Great Britain Ffaure and Ireland Being Defender of the ffaith and in the year of Our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred thirty and four. Signed Sealed Published and Declared by the said Miss Gladman otherwise Green the Testative as and for her last Will and Testament in the Presence of us who have subscribed our Names as Witnesses In the presence of the said Testative. Thomas Beynon of Redbourn Wm Ginger Homfistad Joseph Walls Servant to Mr Beynon.
This Will was proved at London on the Twenty sixth day of August in the year of Our Lord One Thousand Seven hundred and Thirty seven before the Worshipfull John Andrew Doctor of Laws Surrogate of the Right Worshipfull John Bettesworth Doctor of Laws Master (keeper) or Commissary of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury lawfully constituted By the Oath of Thomas Gladman otherwise Green the Son of the deceased and Sole Executor named in the said Will To whom was granted Administration of all and singular the Goods Chattells and Credits of the said deceased he being first sworn duly to administer the same.
